Nicolas Sebastien Anelka (Born 14 March 1979) is a former french international footballer. He played for Chelsea F.C. from January 2008, to January 2012, when he signed for Chinese side, Shanghai Shenhua.

Chelsea career[]

Anelka signed from Bolton in January 2008 for a fee of £15,000,000. Despite his excellent record for Bolton, the French striker netted only twice in 24 appearances in all competitions for his new club. The 2008-09 season however, spoke a different story. Anelka earned the Premier League Golden Boot, netting 19 times in 37 league appearances, 25 in 54 overall.

The next season, Anelka did not live up to expectations and scored just 11 in the League. The 2010-11 season proved to be the forward's worst full season as a blue - netting just 6 times in 33 Premier League games.

The first half of the 2011-12 season proved to be the last as a Chelsea player. On 3 December 2011, Anelka handed in a transfer request because of his lack of first team football. Just over a week later, Chelsea confirmed that he would be signing for Shanghai Shenhua. He signed for the Chinese side on January 1, 2012.
